Born on 15 August 1818.79,110,16,49 At the age of 1, Joseph B. was baptized in Conewago Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, on 30 April 1820.16 Joseph B. died in McSherrystown, Adams County, Pennsylvania, on 26 February 1888; he was 69.49 Buried in Conewago Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania.49 Conewago Chapel Basilica Cemetery. Occupation: Laborer. Religion: Roman Catholic.

NOTE: Wife's military pension application states that her husband "…was born In the year AD 1818."

-Company Muster Roll for January & February 1863 states "Reported as absent without leave last muster started with Regt whilst in Baltimore as arrested a short distance from Depot & was only returned Feby 22/63 & appears in present cal as "Joseph Sanders"
-Muster rolls of 10 Apr. 1863 thru June 1863 shows him on duty with Provost Marshall in Suffolk, VA.
On 9 February 1858 when Joseph B. was 39, he married Caroline C. KUHN111,112, daughter of John KUHN, Conewago Chapel, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Born in November 1823 in Pennsylvania.111 Caroline C. died in McSherrystown, Adams County, Pennsylvania, on 18 January 1908; she was 84. Buried in Conewago Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Conowago Chapel Cemetery. Religion: Roman Catholic.

NOTE: husbands military pension records—(the following is from a General Affidavit filed by a neighbor, 28 May 1892) "The means of support Mrs. Caroline C. Sanders has, are the rental of one or two rooms in her house—amounting to 3.66 2/3 Dollars per month and the fruits of her own labor. ¶ The property she owns is a house and lot in the Borough of McSherrystown the value of which is, say Eight Hundred Dollars, on which she owes one hundred dollars. ¶ The amount of her income from all sources is, say—five dollars per month. ¶ My means of knowing the facts here testified to, are, that I am a near neighbor to Mrs. Sanders and have known her all my life and am familiar with her circumstances, and see her almost daily… F. A. Conrad"

Hayes (spelling?), Pastor of Conewago Chapel, 30 Sep 1890—"The Records of Conewago Chapel Adams County, Pennsylvania show that Joseph Sanders and Caroline Kuhn were married by Rev. Michael Dougherty on February 9, 1858, witnesses to the marriage were Michael Donohue and Michael Sullivan."

Mrs. Caroline C. Sanders died at her home in McSherrystown last Saturday, aged 82 years. She was a daughter of John Kuhn, dec’d, of McSherrystown and married Joseph Sanders many years ago, and since the death of her husband has been living alone. The funeral was held from St. Mary’s Church, McSherrystown on Monday, with mass of requiem by Rev. Father Reudter, interment in Conowago Chapel Cemetery. She is survived by one brother, John Kuhn, of Baltimore.113
